In 2004, at age 42, Buddy Thomas lost a two-year battle with cancer. Looking for a way to honer his life, we decided to combine two things Buddy enjoyed...playing golf and mentoring kids. Thus in 2005 the 1st Annual Buddy Thomas Memorial Golf Tournament was held and the proceeds were donated to the Fairgrounds Junior Golf League. The Fairgrounds JGL was formed to teach kids the game of golf and life skills. A perfect match for us!
Tragically, last fall we lost brother Billy to a heart attack. Billy wasn't a golfer, but he had the same committment to mentoring kids as Buddy did. Billy & wife Nanclyn have touched the lives of countless kids and taught them skills that built confidence in them. They all knew they could count on Billy & Nanclyn. Nanclyn carries on through her involvement with 4H.
The 5th Annual tournament will take place May 9. Altho the name will remain the same, the Buddy Thomas Most Enthusiastic Award which is present at the JGL's end of season Round-up will become the Buddy Thomas & Bill Thomas Most Enthusiastic Award.
